Mark Cohen, Owner
Mark's lifelong fitness journey began in Chicago in 1970, where he learned the art of pumping iron from legendary bodybuilders Rock Stonewall and Sergio Oliva. Eager to escape the Chicago winters, Mark arrived in San Diego in 1973, where he embraced the Southern California lifestyle. Running, scuba diving, kayaking, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking.... it's amazing what you can do when it's summer all year long!
A graduate of DePaul University, Mark completed the Professional Screenwriting Program at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. He was the founding editor and publisher of PC Sports & Video Games magazine, and he has written more than 40 books for Prima Games, the electronic entertainment division of Random House.
After many years of exploring a wide variety of fitness regimens, Mark received his Certified Personal Trainer qualification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Soon after, he added a Corrective Exercise specialization. A strong proponent of body-weight exercise for functional fitness, Mark earned three different TRX certifications, including Sports Medicine and Tactical Force.
Mark continues to explore new and exciting venues to bring variety to the workouts at Fit City San Diego, including the Bulgarian Bag, the "secret" training tool of wrestlers and powerlifters. The kickboxing workout utilizes the Focusmaster G-1000 boxing system, a series of modular stations with limitless boxing and kicking combinations to build strength, endurance and a rock-hard core. Recognized as one of the most innovative, new fitness concepts, the Focusmaster G-1000 was recently selected as the top prize winner on Spike TV's Sweat, Inc., hosted by Jillian Michaels.
"Anything that gets you moving is good. But, to build a savings account of energy and vitality you can draw on for a lifetime, you must build muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, balance, mobility, a strong and stable core, and explosive power. These attributes are not just for competitive athletes. They are for anyone who wants to be fit for life."
